Biography: Chuen-Min Huang is an associate professor in the department of information management at the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Taiwan. She received her B.A. and M.A. degrees from National Taiwan University in 1982 and 1986 respectively, and her Ph.D. degree from University of Pittsburgh, U.S.A. in 1996. Her research interests focus on text mining, cluster analysis, image annotation, software engineering, and design pattern. Dr. Huang has been granted four invention patents from Taiwan and U.S. In 2016, she presented the work entitled “Weave the Web of Words” won Gold Medal and awarded two special prizes from the Russian Academy of Basic Science and the Assembly Congress, respectively.

Speech Title: Error Detection and Correction Based on Chinese Phonemic Alphabet in Chinese Text: A Follow-up Study
Abstract: Misspelling and misconception resulting from similar pronunciation appears frequently in Chinese texts. Without double check-up, this situation is getting even worse with the help of Chinese input method editor. Previous studies on automatic error detection and correction of Chinese text have undergone many challenges and suffered from bad performance compared with that of Western text editor. In view of the prominent phenomenon in Chinese writing problem, this study proposes a learning model based on Chinese phonemic alphabet. The experiment result reveals that the proposed model could detect the misspellings and suggest the users the correct candidate words.
